Bogotá, Colombia enjoys a cool oceanic climate having a relatively dry summer and a brisk, wet winter. During the year the average temperature varying between 50°F (10°C) and 64.4°F (18°C) on rainy periods, and 42.8°F (6°C) to 66.2°F (19°C) on sunny days.
On average, January is the coolest and driest month with daytime temperature reaching as high as 71.6°F (22°C) and nights falling to a medium 45.7°F (7.6°C). The average precipitation is 33.7" (856mm), with October being the rainiest month.

Due to Bogotá's proximity to the equator and a high altitude of 8800 ft, there are no particular seasons and hardly any experiences of extremely high or low temperatures.

Winter is equal to the rainy season and summer is equivalent to the dry season. Dry weather runs from December to February while wet conditions are experienced in April, May, September, October, and November. These months are marked by low heavy overcast skies. Expect to find thin air and an intense UV light at this great elevation, but with few absolute sunny days.

The climate of Bogotá is considered tropical. Consequently, there is no bad time to visit this city. However, the dry seasons of December through March, July, and August are considered the best time of the year to visit Bogotá. These months have the least amount of precipitation, and therefore they are the busiest with tourists who come to experience the Bogotá Carnival and Carnival of White and Black held during this time. Average temperature during these months hangs approximately at 57.2°F (14°C).

Considering there is weatherwise no bad season to visit Bogotá if you are looking to explore the city quietly and bypass a large crowd of tourists, avoid January, April, and May, as they are the busiest month for tourism.

The city of Bogotá and Colombia, in general, are prone to perennial floods. Due to the country's equatorial climate, the frequent heavy rains, influenced by a condition known as El Niño and La Niña phenomena, bring a sequence of flash floods and landslides. Expect to find a traffic chaos and streets and roads impassable - altered by the torrential downpour that leads to severe flooding and intense water accumulation.

January is the driest and sunniest month of the year. It is also the month that receives the least amount of rainfall with precipitation averaging 2" (50.8mm) of rain. Even with this limited rainfall, expect rain showers after every two or three days with a sufficient cloud cover in the afternoon of 78% to 80%.

February is a somewhat dry time for Bogotá. The weather is reasonably dry, sunny and influenced by a marine winter atmosphere. There are friendly overcast skies with frequent fog and repeated scattered rain. The temperature during the day does not exceed 71.6°F (22°C) while at night, 41°F (5°C) is normal.
The weather is pleasant for exploring the city's main attractions and hiking around, nevertheless, regularly take precautions and protection against the excess UV lights. Bogotá experiences moderately warm weather in March. It is the hottest month with an average daytime temperature at highs of 66.2°F (19°C) while lows remain at 39.2°F (4°C) to 42.8°F (6°C). Precipitation during March is averaging at 2.6" (66mm) with a maximum of 14 rainy days.
