Cali is the most populated city in the southwestern region of Colombia, and it currently serves as the capital city of the department of Valle del Cauca. The city was established in 1536 and has grown to be one of the most populated cities as well as one of the largest cities in Colombia. Cali is conveniently located near the Pacific Coast, making it a strong economic, entertainment, and urban hub in the country.
Cali is home to stunning ancient architecture as featured in the religious buildings like the iconic San Francisco Religious Complex, the ancient La Merced Chapel, and the glorious San Pedro Cathedral. There are several museums across the city that feature the growth and development of Cali, like the Calima Gold Museum, the vast La Tertulia Museum of Modern Art, and the local Julio Cesar Cubillos Archaeological Museum. Other memorable spots in Cali include the numerous zoos, aquariums, and natural park gardens and the iconic Cali National Park.

When to visit Cali

Cali experiences a tropical savanna climate that is Köppen classified as Aw. The weather varies significantly between the regions within Cali owing to the varying altitude as a result of the Western Mountain Ranges. As Cali is located near the equator, the weather variations in all the seasons may pose very minimal differences. The city’s weather is characterized by two main seasons; the wet season and the dry season.
There are two wet seasons in Cali, one begins in March and ends in May, and the other starts in October and ends in November. The wet season in Cali is what is practically referred to like winter, and is the main cause of the lush and green nature of the city. During the rainy season, Cali experiences warm and pleasant temperature ranges with the mercury stuck between 28°C (82.4°F) and 29°C (84.2°F) during the day and dropping to between 16°C (60.8°F) and 17°C (62.6°F) at night. April receives the highest rainfall of the year, harvesting as high as 129.3mm (5.1") in precipitation from seventeen rainfall days. October and November both record 101.5mm (4") in precipitation across sixteen rainfall days. The seasons remain warm despite the rains and record a daily average of five sunshine hours.
The dry season, typically referred to as summer features hot and moderately dry days as well as moderately high-temperature readings. The dry season kicks in from December and ends in February, only to resume in June through September. The temperature is high, with the mercury holding between 34°C (93.2°F) and 36°C (96.8°F) during the day and dropping to between 18°C (64.4°F) and 19°C (66.2°F) at night. The days feel hotter than registered, considering there are up to six and a half sunshine hours per day on average. July is the driest month in Cali with a low reading of 31.5mm (1.2") in precipitation and barely eight days of rainfall. The dry season is oppressive with it scorching weather, but most afternoons receive light showers of rain to cool down the heat.
The peak of the travel season in Cali is between March and April and also from December to January. The Feria de Cali is a festival held in December, and it is the biggest celebration in Cali, featuring numerous activities from musical shows, salsa dance performances, bullfights, to musical concerts by musicians from across the world.
