Ibagué forms a part of the Colombian Coffee Region, which is also known popularly as Eje Cafetero. It is the capital city of the Colombian department of Tolima, and it is located in the heart of the country. Ibagué is one of the most populated cities in the country as well as in entire Colombia and is the government seat of Tolima.
Ibagué was established in 1550 and has developed over time to become the political, economic, business, cultural, tourism, administrative, and art hub of Colombia.
The location of the city in the center of the country and with the surroundings of the Colombian Andes Ranges has made Ibagué the excellent tourist spot of all time.
Ibagué is famous for its beautiful musical heritage and is fondly referred to as the 'Musical Capital of Colombia and America' featured in the many musical monuments and festivities therein.
Visitors take to enjoying numerous concerts that are held in the large Conservatory of Tolima. The Tolima Museum of Art offers more on the culture and development of the people of Ibagué, and visitors throng in to learn as much as possible. More outdoor activities include a trip to the grand Combeina Canyon, where exotic wild animals like bears, foxes, and condors can be watched. Hiking and biking through the mountain trails around Ibagué are also common activities.

When to visit Ibagué

Ibagué experiences a tropical rainforest climate, which is classified as Af under the Köppen climatic classification. Because of its high latitude, though, the climate is moderately colder than it should be. The weather is mainly characterized by ample rainfall throughout the year, with reasonably consistent temperatures across the year.
The average annual temperature in Ibagué reaches highs of 28°C (82.4°F) and lows of 18°C (64.4°F). The differences between the temperature recordings are very minimal on both the hottest days and the coldest days.
The city experiences ample rainfall in most months of the year. The least rainy months are January, July, and August, with moderately high readings in precipitation of 86.5mm (3.4"), 75.9mm (3"), and 78.2mm (3.1"), respectively. The wettest months are April and May, both having as high as 228.3mm (9") in precipitation averagely, with up to twenty rainfall days each!
Since most days are devoid of extremely hot temperature ranges and extremely chilly days, Ibagué becomes an excellent tourist destination throughout the year. Most days experience up to five and a half hours of sunshine, both in the wet season and the moderately drier season.
Ibagué is a beautiful city that can be visited anytime during the year, owing to its ever-pleasant tropical climate. The regions around Los Nevados National Natural Park become extremely cold but remain as attractive and scenic as ever. The travel period to Ibagué usually peaks in the drier months, between January and mid-March, and between July and mid-September.
Because of its deep-rooted musical heritage, Ibagué holds numerous musical concerts and shows across the year. On top of them all, the annual Festival de Duetos Principes de la Cancion, which is held in March, attracts music lovers from across the globe to enjoy the beauty of duet singing. For folklore, music and dance shows, beauty pageant shows, and other concerts related to music, people attend the famous Colombian Folklore Festival, which is held annually between June and July.
